Overview

Cap Bon: Korbous, Kerkouane, Kélibia and Hammamet medina, private day trip

Cap Bon is the green finger of land that points from Tunisia towards Sicily, with mountains, orchards and a long, wild coastline. This day trip follows its shore from a Roman-era spa to the only surviving Punic town, then up to a hilltop fortress.

There is a sea view at almost every stop, and the day ends with a walk in the Hammamet medina: good news if you are staying in Hammamet, because you finish close to your hotel.

Highlights

  • Dip your feet where Korbous’s hot springs flow into the sea
  • Kerkouane, the only Punic town that survives as it was built (UNESCO)
  • The 16th-century fort of Kélibia and its sea views
  • A last walk in the walled medina of Hammamet
  • Certified guide and three entrance tickets included

  2. Kerkouane, a Punic town by the sea

UNESCO World Heritage · 1985Entrance included

At the tip of the Cap Bon peninsula, Kerkouane is the only Phoenician-Punic town to have survived without being rebuilt by Rome, which is why UNESCO listed it in 1985. You walk along its streets of houses, with their private baths and red-and-white floors, right beside the sea.

  3. Kélibia Fort

    Entrance included

A short drive brings you to Kélibia, where a 16th-century citadel crowns a rocky promontory 150 metres above the sea. Climb up for one of the finest views on the Cap Bon coast.

  4. The medina of Hammamet

    Entrance included

The day ends in Hammamet, in a small walled medina whose ramparts are washed by the waves. Orientalist painters and romantic travellers have come here since the end of the 19th century.

Questions about this day

Why is Kerkouane a UNESCO site?

Kerkouane was abandoned in the 3rd century BC and never rebuilt by the Romans, so it is the only Phoenician-Punic town to survive with its original plan. UNESCO listed it, with its necropolis, in 1985.

Can we swim at Korbous?

You can dip your feet where the hot springs reach the sea. For a real swim, ask your guide what is possible on the day.

Are entrance fees included?

Yes: Kerkouane, Kélibia Fort and the medina of Hammamet are included, with all fees and taxes.

Is this a good day trip with children?

Yes. The day mixes beaches, a fortress and short walks.
