Overview
Bizerte, Utica and Cap Angela: private day trip to the north of Africa
This is the day for travellers who like history with sea air. It starts in the oldest Phoenician town of the region, continues to the very top of the African continent and ends on the quays of a Mediterranean fishing port.
Utica is an open-air archaeological site, Cap Angela a wild headland and Bizerte a working port town rather than a resort. Lunch is not included, which leaves you free to choose a seafood restaurant by the harbour.

Utica, older than Carthage
Entrance included
Utica is traditionally held to be the first Phoenician colony in North Africa: classical authors dated its founding to around 1100 BC, although the oldest remains found so far are from the 8th century BC. Once a port, it now lies inland, left behind by the silt of the Medjerda river. Walk among the foundations of its temples and houses and the mosaics that remain.

Cap Angela, the top of Africa
Entrance included
Since 2014, Cap Angela, near Bizerte, has been recognised as the northernmost point of the African continent. A monument marks the spot, above rocky coves and open views of the Mediterranean.

Bizerte, its old port and medina
Bizerte’s old port is a small basin lined with white houses, cafés and brightly painted fishing boats. The medina runs along it to the kasbah, a maze of narrow lanes below the octagonal minaret of the Great Mosque.
