The Sejnane pottery registered in the cultural heritage of UNESCO

A beautiful recognition of the know-how of Sejnane craftswomen. Congratulations to the women of Sejnane!

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has just announced the official registration of Sejnane pottery in UNESCO’s World List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Sejnane pottery is the work of artisans in the north-west (Bizerte governorate) who have exceptional expertise in the field.

For the Permanent Delegate Ambassador of Tunisia to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Ghazi Gherairi, this World Heritage inscription is very important when Tunisia has not inscribed so far on the list of intangible world heritage. Indeed, Tunisia has been absent from the list of intangible cultural heritage worldwide for 20 years.

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs welcomes this international recognition of the artisanal creativity of Sejnane potters given the historical, artistic, social, and economic dimensions of these potteries.
The ministry hopes that this inscription will open the door to other consecrations likely to preserve our cultural heritage.
